In May 2000 the original Lakeview Congregational Church was destroyed by fire. While creating a new church building was paramount, congregational elders expressed a desire for the new building to exhibit the same character and feeling as the original. Additional constraints to the design and development were a tight budget which could not afford excess costs.

Zoning issues present with the site under current conditions placed by the City of Lakewood were also factored into the design, which had to be resolved before the construction permit could be issued.
